Raise Kidney Stone Risk, Drinking Iced Tea

Drinking iced tea does help soothe the throat in hot weather. However, from now on you should reduce your frequency of drinking iced tea. A researcher from Loyala University Medical Center, Dr John Milner, found that people who liked drinking iced tea were at high risk of developing kidney stones as reported by Medicaldaily on August 8th, 2012.

People tend to become dehydrated during the hot weather.  Eliminating dehydration by drinking iced tea actually increases the risk of kidney stones, especially for those who are at risk already. The researchers believe that high concentration of oxalate (one of the chemicals that trigger the formation of kidney stones) cause problems in the urinary tract.

Do not underestimate it. Men are four times higher to be at risk of developing kidney stones than women, and the risk will continue to increase after the the age steps on 40 years old.

Menopausal women with low estrogen levels and women who have a hysterectomy are also at high risk of kidney stones.
